- BNDES – Brazilian Development Bank.
- CAGR – Compound Annual Growth Rate: It is the compound annual average growth rate of a given period.
- Cargo Agents – Individual or legal entity that transports third-party cargo overseas for remuneration, which is normally a percentage of the freight paid plus expenses. In general, they operate by account and order of the shipper.
- CLIA – Customs Industrial Logistics Center.
- CODESP – Companhia Docas do Estado de São Paulo (Port authority of the state of São Paulo).
- CVM – Securities and Exchange Commission of Brazil.
- Dwell Time – Average time of storage of a certain volume of containers or vehicles.
- EBITDA – Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortization. Refers to operating profit before financial result, income tax and social contribution, depreciation and amortization.
- FINAME – Financing line from BNDES for Machinery and Equipment purchase.
- FINEM – Project Finance. Financing line from BNDES for implementation, expansion and modernization projects.
- IPO – Initial Public Offering.
- ISSQN – Tax on Services of any nature.
- Lease Agreement – Agreement entered into between the port authority and the Company to use Container or Vehicle terminal for a given period.
- MHC – Mobile Harbour Crane. Equipment that moves containers in the quay area, also commonly used to handle project cargo, general cargo and bulk cargo.
- MMC – Minimum contractual volume.
- MPH – Movements per hour. Productivity indicator that shows the number of container movements per hour of the terminal, equipment or the operation of a vessel.
- NVOCC – Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier. Cargo consolidating companies that do not have their own ships and which purchase space in ship-owners’ vessels to ship the cargo of their clients.
- OCR – Optical Character Recognition. System used to recognize containers and vehicle license plates.
- Reach Stacker – Vehicle used to handle and transport containers over short distances within the port terminal.
- Retention Rate – Percentage of full containers unloaded that remain in the Company so that other logistics services are provided (e.g.: storage).
- RMG – Rail Mounted Gantry, crane that moves over rail tracks handling containers in the storage yard.
- RTG – Rubber Tyred Gantry, crane that moves over reinforced tracks handling containers in the storage yard.
- STS – Ship-to-shore crane, quay equipment also called “portainer”, used to load and unload containers form ships through a drawbridge structure projected on the ship that contains a mobile platform called spreader.
- Tag Along – Protection mechanism for non-controlling shareholders, which enables them to sell their shares to a new controlling shareholder in case of transfer of control of a publicly held company.
- Terminal Tractor – Vehicles similar to trucks, but built specifically to operate within the port area, used to remove containers from the quay to the storage yard and vice versa.
- TEU or TEUs – Twenty-Foot Equivalent Unit, main standard unit of measurement for containers in maritime trade, which corresponds to a standard twenty-foot-long container.
- TEV – Vehicle Terminal of Santos Brasil, located in the Port of Santos on an area adjacent to TECON 1, authorized for use by the Company through a Permission for Use Instrument (Termo de Permissão de Uso – TPU), issued by CODESP.
- TRAs – Bonded Terminals, also known as Dry Ports, are terminals located on an area adjacent to the organized port area or port facility, without direct access to a berth.
- TUP or Channel Fee – Port infrastructure use fee payable to CODESP, which is levied on full containers shipped or unloaded.
